FedEx, the world’s largest express transportation company, supported Action for Children, delivering supplies to volunteers sleeping out in aid of homeless young people.
FedEx delivered boxes of supplies to eight different locations across the UK, including sleeping bags, brollies, woolly hats, food and drink supplies and wellington boots in support of this national event, ‘Byte Night’. Collecting the items from Action for Children, one of the UK's leading children's charities, the FedEx fleet travelled a total of 1378 miles to deliver 20 boxes to each location including Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, London, Manchester and Reading.
The activity is part of the FedEx Cares initiative in which team members across the world give back to their communities. Through this, FedEx supports a number of charitable organisations in the UK and around the world, including Action for Children.
“This is a subject close to my heart so it’s a privilege to be able to provide our services for the benefit of such a worthwhile cause," says Trevor Hoyle, Vice President Operations, FedEx Express UK & Ireland. "We want to make a difference by reducing the amount of young people who find themselves without a place to stay. Having worked with Action for Children for more than four years, I am extremely proud of our team members for helping to support another one of its valuable activities."
“80,000 young people a year find themselves without somewhere to stay, leaving them at risk of violence, mental health problems and addiction,” says Sherine Krause, executive director of Fundraising, Communications and Policy at Action for Children. “Action for Children helps young people who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, to make a better future for themselves by providing accommodation, guidance and early help to stop families breaking down. We are hoping to raise more than £1 million in this year’s Byte Night to go towards this vital work and FedEx’s support is crucial to achieving this ambitious goal.”
