UPS (NYSE code: UPS) today announced its enhanced services to help carry out large-scale distribution of COVID-19 vaccine in the coming months. As part of these enhancements, UPS Healthcare can now produce up to 1200 pounds. According to the manufacturer's storage requirements, dry ice is produced hourly in its U.S. facilities to support the storage and transportation of cold chain products such as frozen vaccines. The increased production also enables UPS to provide dry ice for hospitals, clinics and other nursing sites in the United States and Canada to store vaccines locally. Dry ice will be stored in UPS Worldport ® Purchase and supply the next day.

The surge in demand has led logistics suppliers to plan for the shortage of dry ice that some analysts worry about, because pharmaceutical companies have developed strategies to safely deliver hundreds of millions of doses of vaccines to the United States and the international community.

When handling complex vaccines for customers, enhancing our dry ice production capacity has greatly improved the agility and reliability of our supply chain, said Wes Wheeler, president of UPS Healthcare. The healthcare facilities in Louisville, Dallas and Ontario will ensure that we have the ability to produce dry ice to fully package and supplement the goods as needed to maintain the feasibility and effectiveness of the products.

In addition to dry ice production, UPS will also launch portable temperature (ULT) refrigerator in cooperation with Stirling Ultragold. These portable refrigerators will be distributed and used in smaller nursing points, requiring a long-term refrigerator storage solution. UPS will cooperate with Stirling to provide Stirling ULT25 and Undercounter model SU105 to provide thermal protection for key vaccines requiring temperature in the range of - 20 ° C to - 80 ° C.
